The Western part of the province of Friesland (Fr), in the North of The Netherlands, is a famous site to watch wintering geese. Tens of thousands of Greater White-fronted and Barnacle Geese come to feed here in the meadows and to enjoy the relative undisturbedness. Also thousands of Pinkfeet Anser brachyrhynchus and many Greylag Anser anser, as well as stragglers like Lesser White-fronts Anser erythropus and Red-breasted Geese Branta ruficollis winter here.
One day in December, we went to have a look to see if no less than three reported Red-breasted Geese could be found. Indeed, we managed to find two individuals of this extremely pretty species, as well as one colour-ringed Lesser White-front (which unfortunately was too far of to make any video recordings of). One of the Red-breasteds, however, was very confiding, allowing me to make some nice video shots from the car.
