Shortly after trying out my new video camera on a Pectoral Sandpiper, I went to the same site to check out the waders attracted by the muddy ponds overhere. Instead of the Pec Sand, now a splendid juvenile Marsh Sandpiper was present, which showed very well. It sometimes even approached a little too close for filming through my telescope. This resulted in some black rings bordering the image (vignetting), because I had to zoom out a little. Nevertheless, the pictures allow accurate study of the plumage of this elegant bird.

Another splendid opportunity to film a Marsh Sandpiper was a bird staying in 'De Putten' near Camperduin NH, in mid-winter. This must have been the first Marsh Sand to winter in the Netherlands. As you can see from the images, it's a first-winter bird, moulting from juvenile to adult winter plumage.

An adult bird is shown here. It was present (with another individual) in an area where also a White-rumped Sandpiper was seen.

Another juvenile. Lentevreugd  is an old flower bulb field that is now being transformed into a small natural area. Despite its small size, it has already attracted many waders, among others a Pectoral Sandpiper, earlier this year.
